On the cobbled streets of TriBeCa, where the coolest spots in New York are tucked among industrial red-brick buildings, is Aire Ancient Baths, an exclusive spa where residents of the Big Apple go to escape from the frenetic pace of the city and relax in a one-of-a-kind setting.
The wellness centre, which opened its doors in May 2012, is located in a former textile factory on Franklin Street which covers about 1,500 square meters. Inside, the latest water technology coexists with history and the latest design trends. The original building’s wooden beams, columns and brick walls, which date to 1883, have been preserved.
The décor at Aire Ancient Baths evokes the Mediterranean culture. Marble panelling was installed in the dressing room; in the main lobby, a fountain from a sixteenth-century mansion in Granada welcomes guests, and the spa’s lighting system is based on Moroccan lamps.
Fluidra equipped the spa with the necessary technology to design the thermal circuit, which includes several pools (with temperatures ranging between 10°C and 39°C). This area features the Ice (10°), Cold (14ºC) and Hot (39°C) pools, as well as the Salt pool –which has the same water density as the Dead Sea– and the Propeller-Jet Bath (36°C).
The building also has an aromatherapy room and a relaxation area where visitors can relax on hot marble stones while enjoying a cup of tea or a glass of juice. Visitors can also relieve stress at Aire Ancient Baths –alone or with a partner– with a two or four-hand massage and a range of exclusive treatments (called rituals) in a private area of the spa that incorporate red wine, cava, olive oil and citrus fruitss.
