The Spanish Association of Manufacturers and Distributors of Equipment and Chemical Products, Maintainers and Builders of Swimming Pools and Sports Facilities (ASOFAP) held its first open conference on 5 February in Barcelona. The event was called “The Spanish pool market, the outlook for 2015 and future trends” and was attended by large numbers.
David Tapias, Fluidra’s Director of R&D+i, attended the conference on behalf of the group. Around 180 industry experts attended Tapias’ presentation, at which he showcased products such as AstralPool Mac and FluidraConnect, and he also discussed the guidelines we follow in line with our commitment to innovation, sustainability and product development.
A report drawn up by ASOFAP and the 2015 Piscina & Wellness Barcelona trade show was also presented. The report was an in-depth study of the situation of the domestic pool market in Spain, as well as of the needs of the owners of pools and potential buyers.
The authors of the study highlighted the progressive aging of the pool park in Spain and pointed out that equipment and accessories were of a very basic standard. Given this situation, the biggest opportunities in the sector are the renewal, maintenance and improvement of up and running facilities.
Insofar as the reasons for buying a pool are concerned, the report revealed that the main ones were have enough space for a family pool (45.5%), wellbeing and quality of life (which rose from 4.2% in 2011 to a surprising 40.8%). Other reasons given by buyers were health, doing sport, increasing the value of their homes and embellishing their gardens.
Finally, the study discussed some of the latest trends for the coming years. According to experts, the sector’s future will largely depend on the design of smaller fibreglass and polyester pools equipped with salt chlorination disinfection systems.
