We have recently acquired 72% of the South African company WaterLinx, the largest manufacturer of components for pools and water treatment of the continent, in order to expand our presence in Africa.
Specifically, the acquisition will help us grow and boost our pool and irrigation area in South Africa, a strategic country –the sixth largest market for our sector in the world– that is home to roughly 800,000 residential and 2,000 public swimming pools.
Speaking to the media, our CEO, Eloi Planes, explained: “This transaction allows us to further grow in the southern hemisphere and increasingly compensate for the seasonality of our business”.
WaterLinx has a market share of over 30% in South Africa, with annual sales of 32 million euros, and has four manufacturing centres and ten sales offices located throughout the country.
After the purchase, valued at 17 million euros, all these facilities will join the subsidiaries we already have in Johannesburg and Cape Town; our group also has subsidiaries in Morocco and Egypt.
South Africa is also a gateway to other markets on the continent, with a strong influence in neighbouring countries such as Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and in other sub-Saharan countries as well.
